This
1970's kitchen was dated and was located in such a way as to chop up the
entire floorspace on the main level. The owners wanted to open up the whole
living space so that the kitchen would include the adjacent foyer, family
and dining rooms into one large open space. This would also give them direct
access from all of these areas to the new deck at the back of the house,
and to the split level fireplace room near the entrance foyer. We removed
all of the interior walls and replaced a load-bearing wall with decorative
wood detailed columns. We installed plenty of storage cabinets, some with
glass front doors for display purposes, and interior lighting. We also installed
granite counter tops throughout the kitchen, including on the breakfast
bar, which helps conceal some of the working counter area from the dining
and living rooms. We installed all stainless steel appliances, and a professional
gas cooktop, and designed a flexible rolling work cabinet with a granite
top, that matches the look and height of the other lower cabinets. We finished
up with all new hardwood flooring in Brazilian Cherry and details in the
wood trim and granite edging, as well as a hutch for additional storage.
The homeowners can now enjoy their big screen TV while cooking and eating,
and socialize with their guests throughout the main level area, and even
out to the deck. |
