This
dated small kitchen was closed off from the other rooms in the home, all of
which surrounded it on this level. The owners wanted to open up the space to
the other rooms and make it larger, as well as improve access from the garage
area, which was through the very small laundry room. We removed the walls from
the laundry area and created a double door laundry closet, which allowed direct
access from the garage to the kitchen area and incorporated the laundry room
space into the kitchen. We then reconfigured the kitchen and gave it a larger
window view into the private back yard. The homeowners were using a portable
island cart, which we replaced with a large storage island, with matching granite
top. The homeowners wanted their color scheme to blend with the existing family
room, so we finished the maple cabinetry with a rose toned glaze, and also carried
those tones in the tile floor. All appliances were replaced with new stainless
steel appliances. The removal of the laundry room also allowed us to install
larger pantry cabinetry, giving them additional storage space. It also allowed
repositioning of the refrigerator to allow some counter space and display cabinets
on that same wall, as well as opposite on the wall next to the wall oven and
microwave. We also tied the family room area into the kitchen by extending the
granite counter top over to the railing overlooking the family room area, and
created a small informal dining area. |
