This
incredible kitchen was formed out of three separate areas/rooms, the walls of
which we removed. In order to achieve the homeowners' goals of having a large
open room, we had to replace the load bearing walls with steel beams in order
to support the roof. We installed a huge island for the wife who wanted it to
help with entertaining, cooking and serving for guests. We accomplished this
by creating the triangular island you see here, but with multi layers to break
up the huge amount of space. We also gave her an additional gas cooktop to help
with food preparation for large groups of guests. They were able to move the
dining table into the area near the sliding glass doors to the outside, giving
them additional seating area near the island. We installed French doors to the
foyer, so there is also privacy, and reconfigured the bath and laundry area
just behind the stove wall in the before shot. We also installed a desk area
for planning and homework, that also has some display space. We created interest
with two toned cabinetry and an unusual granite that ties together both of those
wood tones. |
