These homeowners wanted to update their kitchen, but the wife mainly wanted
to make it more open to the rest of the home, particularly the family room next
door. There was a wall between the rooms in the breakfast area, and a narrow
doorway. We removed the wall and installed a half wall with counter and widened
the doorway using arches that echo the arches in the upstairs hallway that overlooks
the family room. She also wanted a country kitchen, and we created one with
two tones and decorative bead board in areas that you normally would not find
it, such as behind the open book shelves. We created an olive toned bead board
island with a gas cooktop and an electric cooktop across from it, so she would
have alternate cooking areas and types of fuel. She is an avid cook and this
gave her a choice of fuels for different types of cooking. We decorated the
kitchen with glass front cabinets, lighted inside, for her fine porcelains,
again backing the cabinets with bead board. |
