Aging in place was the goal of this couple for their new kitchen, but they wanted
it updated to reflect modern appliances and their travels to Italy. They wanted
it to uniquely reflect their tastes, while working super efficiently for them
as they age. We created a design that incorporated every convenience. The cabinetry
all have pull out drawers in them, or the corner lazy susan. There are also
more drawers than you would normally expect, as the wife likes to bake and has
her baking goods stored in the island and nearby. She wanted a baking center,
so we created the island with the double ovens, low down for easy access, as
well as storage drawers. There is a cooktop opposite, with a warming drawer
just underneath. The microwave is above the counter, out of the way. The back
of the island houses the cookbook collection, and the cabinets that make the
bench in the breakfast room contain other hobby items. The counters and table
are made from quartz composite, with specks of blue to pick up on the blue colors
they are using throughout their home. The backsplash is a neutral diagonal tile,
with a small decorative pattern of tiles they purchased on a trip to Italy.
The butler pantry matches, and has textured glass doors. The refrigerator is
flanked by an extra large pantry and baking pans storage. Everything is easy
to get to in this kitchen. |
